The up-slanting appearance of the palpebral aperture in Asians is frequently derived not from the anatomically positive canthal tilt, but from the combined effects of the epicanthus and the up-slanting lateral half of the lower eyelid margin. Asian eyelid surgery is now focused on natural Asian appearance enhancement, not Caucasian imitation.
