Tuesday, May 21, we spent the day visiting city government offices in Pochun, Yangju, Dongducheon, and Uijeongbu. At the first three offices, we met the city Mayors and were treated like royalty.
Then we went to Aeshin Children’s Home, which began in 1953 and is still in operation. I learned that the children from Yangju Babies Home (orphanage I was in) were transferred to Aeshin Children’s Home when they were toddlers and when the orphanage closed in 1981. We were told that our files (if any) were either at Aeshin Children’s Home or one of the city government offices. We checked all places and they found a piece of paper (called a child card). It was all in Korean and didn’t have much info on it. This was at Yangju City Government Office. There wasn’t anymore paperwork or information at this time that they could find. This was a new piece of info for me! I was excited to see it.
We then went to the site of where the orphanage was (which is now a Baskin Robbins) and spoke with an older gentleman who grew up in Aeshin Children’s Home and remembers vaguely of Yangju Babies Home but nothing else.
I will blog more on this topic later and add more pictures. Remember if you want to see more pictures, follow me on Facebook and Instagram.
What a trip!!
